Motorcycle racing first began in 1924 from there over the year several categories of racing beginning with Motocross. Motocross is the most popular form of amateur motorcycle racing; in motocross there are classes for the type of machine you ride. These classes are from 50cc to over 450cc, and riders age 4 to 50. Motocross races are normally over natural terrain courses. Each year there is a competition among the amateurs at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Tennessee. This competition has helped start the career of many pro- motocrossers.
A more traditional style of motorcycle competition in the US in is Dirt Track races. Dirt Track racers race in four diverse types of events: oval short-track, half-mile and mile tracks, and TT courses, which feature at least one right turn and a jump. Every summer there is an AMA certified Dirt Track Grand Championships, the winner receives the Dirt Track horizon award. Road Racing runs over a paved closed course circuit. There is an annual Racing Road Race Grand Championships held at Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. This helps draw out peak club-level riders from across the country.
Hill climb Races are basically a one-person drag race up the face of a steep hill. Each rider is allowed two attempts are reaching the top of the hill. The winner of Hill climb races is normally the person that makes it to the top fastest or if no one can the person that makes it the furthest. Every year there is an AMA Racing Hill climb Grand National Championships. Ice racing is another man verses nature race that has a racer driving over on ice most racer modify their bikes to drive over frozen lake or ponds.
Enduros offer first step into competition for anyone that enjoys riding off road. Enduros normally run on routes that are in desert, woods or just plain dirt roads. Another unique type of races in Motorcycle is the Observed Trails that don't put focus on speed. Competitors of Observed trails must maneuver their way through different sections with out putting their feet down. Penalty points are giving to riders that make mistakes and the person who has the least penalty points determines the winner.
Motorcycle is a sport that requires much practice as well as much knowledge on what to do to increase your racing experience and skill. Equaling the engine's revs to the bike's speed is an easy way to avoid sloppy downshifts. The results of a ragged downshift can cause ones rear tire to snake as you let the clutch out and drop the rear tire speed quickly. One of the most miss used controls on a motorcycle is the rear brake. The rear brake if used right can make a beneficial difference to the bike reactions going downhill, to a point that at times it is worth sacrificing some of the front brake. Try using your lower body to assist with a variety of riding aspects. Via your legs and torso one can make their ride quicker, smoother and safer.
Motorcycle racing is an adventurous sport which enthralls the audience and gives the thrill to the rider. Not all can afford the time and money it requires to improve motorcycle racing skills. But still one can achieve success in motor racing with hard work and regular practice.
Motorcycle riding basically deals with braking, downshifting, counter steering, cornering and control.
Without doubt braking is the most common yet important thing to master while learning motorcycle racing. Till mastering the art of braking one is advised to use only the front brake as using both brakes requires more concentration and coordination skills. The regular practice is the best way to improve braking skills. The technique one can follow while using the front brake is simple, you roll off the throttle and settle the front end by applying medium pressure and then firmly squeeze the front brake lever and go on decreasing the pressure as the speed reduces.
Downshifting is essential while braking hard in motorcycle racing. A quick rev is done to match the rear wheel speed to the engine speed. Then one can notice a little increase in RPM. If it is not done then the rear wheel might lock up for a moment and it can make the rider to lose the control.
Counter-steering might appear to be a bit confusing in the beginning for a rider. Regular practice can help in getting it right while riding. It is the process in which the rider pushes the handlebars in opposite direction to that of the turn he wants to take. Usually every bicycle or motorcycle rider does it automatically though he might not be conscious about it. In simple way it can be said that, for right turn use right hand. It is very necessary to master counter-steering to be a good and safe motorcycle racer.
Cornering is another common move in motorcycle racing which cannot be overlooked. Turning in corner needs a proper degree, gear and speed. And braking is needed to be used before going for the corner turn. Like in other things, practice and confidence can help in executing corner turns effectively and with ease. Controlling the bike is what racing is all about. The better control the better racer you are.
The other important thing is, don?t bother about what you want to avoid and focus on what you want to do. And practice a lot. The only thing that can save you in the face of an emergency while racing is a lot of practice beforehand. Emergencies are common and frequent in motorcycle racing, so don?t panic. Regular practice helps in overcoming the panic.
Choosing a right racing suit is also very important. Motorcycle racing has the danger of the racer being dragged on the pavement after falling down and losing control etc. So the suit should be chosen to protect the racer from such dangers. Look of the site might be enticing but the suit should be chose only on the criteria 'how well it protects the racer if something goes wrong during the race.
Once you have chosen the right racecourse, the proper racing gear and mastered the ropes of racing you may want to get some good insurance quotes for your motorcycle. You are going to be using it often and you want to be sure that it is covered in case there is any damage to your bike.
Some tips for safer and better motorcycle racing:
1) The speed should be increased gradually and not suddenly.
2) Focus on what you want to do and not what you want to avoid
3) Don?t be rigid. Be relaxed.
4) Position your body properly well before turning at a corner.
5) Get the flow first and then look for the speed increase.
6) Practice a lot.
7) Focus on using the front brake only.
8) Higher the speed, harder the squeeze on lever. Never jerk the lever back.
9) Always have control over the speed.
10) Don't GRAB the brake, just SQUEEZE!
